Amda Digital, Wednesday, July 20, 2022: The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council’s (EIASC) newly elected President, Sheikh Hajj Ibrahim Tufa, announced shortly after taking office that the new administration had started its duties.

The new EIASC leadership was elected at a meeting held at the Sheraton Addis on July 18, 2022. In addition to the president, Sheikh Abdulkarim Sheikh Bedredin, Sheikh Abdulaziz Abdulwale, and Sheikh Hamid Musa were elected to serve as the council’s vice presidents and general secretary, respectively.

The general assembly of the council waited three years and six months before mandating the new election of executives, according to a statement made at the time.

Sheikh Abdulkarim Sheikh Bedredin, the new vice president of the council, accepts the council’s key from Dr. Jeilan Kedir, the outgoing vice president.

Among the 300 participants who were expected to participate in the conference, 261 individuals were present, and 39 of those who were expected to attend the conference did not attend the Monday conference due to death, illness, or failure to return from Hajj pilgrimage, and various other reasons.

Accordingly, the newly elected leadership will stay in office for the next three years, along with its new 14 executive committee members.

Sheikh Hajji Ibrahim Tufa, the newly elected president, stated in a statement that the election process was free and historic; and no party interfered with its conduct. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the orderly conduct of the election.

The Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia issued a statement after the assembly ended in which it expressed its happiness for the peaceful conclusion of the election. The council also wished Sheikh Hajj Ibrahim Tufa, who was chosen to lead the Supreme Council, and all of his colleagues a prosperous and successful term in office.

The assembly also praised Mufti Hajj Omar Idris and his coworkers for their leadership over the previous three years as the Supreme Council’s president. It also urged the Muslim community to build the capacity of its institution and work with the new leadership.
